For the past ten years, I've worked in event planning, communications, and nonprofit management in the DC metro area.
My passion has always been writing and editing, so after graduate school, I took an internship that led to consulting work with Autumn House Press in Pittsburgh, PA screening full-length fiction and nonfiction publication contest entries (the first intern in AH's history allowed to do so). When I moved to DC after my internship, I stayed on with Autumn House as a remote contest screener for three years.
In addition to writing, I wanted to make sure my life and work included helping people. For seven years, I developed skills at a national character development nonprofit called Character.org that serves educators and students, providing the tools they need to create supportive and caring communities. I grew from office manager to Director of Operations to Director of Communications, all the while serving as the lead planner for their annual National Forum.
I have coordinated video interviews with Herm Edwards and Angela Duckworth, crafted a keynote for and met John Lewis, and I count Michele Borba as a close contact who always comes to the rescue when I need her. I have planned and written fundraising campaigns that doubled the previous year's profit and developed my own magazine from the name to the theme to the writers to editing the content itself.
From large conferences down to small board meetings, from family parties to reunions and weddings, I love helping people connect with others. The same goes for writing; either way you are, as a company or as an individual, trying to reach your audience and connect with them on a deeper level. Let me help you do that.
